The workshop, supported in part by the Simons Foundation, will take place in Les Houches School of Physics (https://www.houches-school-physics.com/en/). It will bring together researchers studying fluid mechanics problems relevant to small-scale/fast processes which are currently parameterized in global models. Many of these problems are common across various scientific disciplines, including atmospheric science, oceanography, planetology, and astrophysics. Our goal is to foster interdisciplinary collaboration and innovation by breaking down the traditional boundaries that often separate these scientific communities.
Program
Each of the five days of the workshop will begin with a one-hour keynote lecture, followed by 30-minute contributed talks. Participants will also have the opportunity to present their work as a flash talk & poster during the first day. Our invited speakers include:
Jim Fuller (Caltech)
Christophe Gissinger (ENS Ulm)
Wanying Kang (MIT)
Julien Le Sommer (CNRS-IGE)
Sara Shamekh (Courant Institute)
The afternoons will feature substantial time dedicated to discussions and/or outdoor activities. The Les Houches center is renowned for its contributions to physics research and provides an inspiring backdrop for our gathering. Nestled amidst the Alps, the conference center offers an ideal setting for both intellectual exchange and outdoor pursuits.
Application
The Les Houches center has a limited capacity of 70 participants. Please apply by clicking "Registration" in the left menu. Applications will be accepted until September 15th, 2024. The scientific committee will then review applications and notify applicants of their acceptance or rejection by the end of September 2024. All participants will present their work as either a poster or an oral presentation. Special consideration will be given to PhD students, postdocs, early-career researchers, and individuals from underrepresented communities. Please refrain from making any travel plans until you receive formal acceptance, as we anticipate more applications than available spots.
We look forward to your participation!
The scientific committee: Michael Le Bars, Daniel Lecoanet, Stefan Llewellyn Smith, Jerome Noir, Tiffany Shaw
